Human Equality

Why It Matters //

God created mankind in his own image, as we can read in Genesis 1:27. This means that all humans, regardless of race, gender or nationality, are a reflection of God. Everyone is unique in their own way, but equal in value and worth. Everyone is precious to God, because we were created by him and for him. In Galatians, Paul talks about our oneness in Christ. We become heirs with Christ through our union with him. God does not exclude anyone based on who they are, his salvation and promises are available to everyone through faith in Jesus Christ.

What It's Talking About //

The Book of Galatians was written by Paul the Apostle around 53-57 AD. At this time there were disputes among Jewish converts and Gentiles regarding what Old Testament traditions should or should not be part of a true believers life. One of those issues was about circumcision, which some Jewish converts wanted to impose on Gentile converts. Paul steps in and proclaims that people are justified by faith in Jesus Christ and nothing else. Each and everyone who is a believer is sanctified not by works but by the obedience that comes from faith in God’s work in them by the grace and power of Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Gal. 3:26-28 NIV

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,

27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
