Ekklesia Convictions | Wk 3

WHY IT MATTERS //

As members of Revive we are Committed to Jesus and Committed to one another. This commitment (also known as koinonia) is one of the pillars of our ReviveHOMES; It sets a foundation for us to grow and mature in community. Each unique ReviveHOME is a local expression of the same DNA that God has given us as a family of churches. Over the next weeks we will explore together our shared convictions, our identity and the Kingdom mission God has called us to accomplish in unity. Our shared convictions all stem from our 3 values:

  1. We have a Real God who is alive today and involved in our lives.

  2. We are Real People who are working out our salvation together from a place of commitment.

  3. We have Real Purpose together that will impact our neighborhoods and the nations as we expand the Kingdom of God.

WHAT IT’S TALKING ABOUT //

Throughout this week we are meditating on convictions 5 and 6, which align with the reality that we have Real Purpose:

5. CONTRIBUTORS & PARTICIPANTS: 1 Corinthians 12:7-12, Act 4:32

We choose to be contributors in an age of consumerism. We contribute as much as we can, as often as we can, from whatever we have. When we could sit back, we lean forward because we belong and we can only reach our potential as we see ourselves as one piece of a larger picture. We engage in what God is doing and we know that our part is important.

6. MINISTERS & SERVANTS: Romans 11:36-12:2, Matthew 28:18-20

We carry the Kingdom of God within us and we have a responsibility to recognize and meet needs in our world. God has called us to bring justice and carry out his will on the Earth. We all have a calling, or a unique way to live out our purpose and commission (Please also read this: www.revivetheway.com/identity). The ministry that God assigns us can change, but our motivation to make disciples and glorify Jesus always remains.

1 Corinthians 12:7-12 NLT

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. 12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.

Acts 4:32 NLT

32 All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.

Romans 11:36-12:2 NLT

36 For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Matthew 28:18-20 NLT

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
